Privacy Policy
Last updated November 5, 2026
Chronicle is a personal journaling and habit-tracking app made by Colby Graham ("we", "us"). Your journal is private. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how you stay in control of it.
What we collect
- Account info: your name, email address, and password. Passwords are stored only as a secure one-way hash — we can never see your actual password.
- What you write and track: journal entries (titles, text, day ratings), habits and habit check-ins, and bookmarks.
- Settings: your notification preferences.
- App usage: which screens you open and which features you use (for example, "created an entry" or "checked off a habit"), along with your device type and app version. This never includes what you write: no entry text, titles, habit names, or bookmarks.
Some data stays only on your device and is never sent to us: your reminders, custom bookmark types, and a temporary offline copy of your journal.
What we don't do
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your data.
- We do not show ads or use advertising trackers, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not share your journal with anyone, and we don't read it except when you ask us to help fix a problem with your account.
How we use your data
To run Chronicle for you: to keep you signed in, save and sync your journal and habits, and show your stats, calendar, and Year in Review. We use app usage data only to understand which features help people and what to improve. We use your email address to send account emails (like password resets) and a few product emails (a welcome note, short tips during your first two weeks, and an occasional check-in asking for feedback).
Emails
Every product email has an unsubscribe link. Account emails, like password resets, are always sent because you need them to use your account. If you join our launch waitlist on our website, we store only your email address and use it to tell you when Chronicle launches.
Where it's stored
Your account and journal are stored with our hosting providers — Railway (which runs the Chronicle server) and Supabase (which hosts the database) — in the United States. Emails are sent through Resend, and app usage data is processed by PostHog, both in the United States. These providers handle data on our behalf and may not use it for anything else. Data travels between the app and our server over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
Notifications
Journal, habit, and reminder notifications are scheduled on your phone. You can turn them off anytime in the app or in your iPhone's Settings.
Deleting your data
You can permanently delete your account and everything in it from inside the app: Profile → Delete Account. This erases your account, journal entries, habits, and bookmarks from our servers right away and can't be undone. You can also email us at chronicleapp.support@gmail.com and we'll delete it for you. You can export your journal first from Profile → Export Data.
Children
Chronicle isn't intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top. Big changes will be announced in the app.
